Registration is Underway for Owatonna City Open
Competitive golf, yet a fun atmosphere. That's what I hear from people regarding the Owatonna City Open. The annual golf tournament happens in early August at Owatonna Country Club and Brooktree Golf Course. Registration is now underway. You can find details and sign-up information at www.owatonnagolf.com.
The Adult City Open is on August 6 and 7. The Junior Open is on August 4 and 5. The deadline to register is on Tuesday, August 2. There are flights for all abilities.
The cost for the adult event is $65 if you are a member of either club, live or work in Steele County, or are a graduate of Owatonna High School. If you don't meet any of those requirements, it is $95 to participate.
All golfers will start on Brooktree on Saturday, August 6, and move over to Owatonna Country Club on Sunday, August 7. Tee times start at 7:30 am each day. Players who want to use a cart need to express that during registration.
It is a unique opportunity for non-members of the Owatonna Country Club to experience the course, according to their website, "As a private club, Owatonna Country Club draws the interests of golfers near and far, many of whom only get the chance to play our beautiful 18 during tournaments and special events. Due to low-lying areas being flooded and part of the course being sold, we've recently finished a major upgrade to our golf course in Owatonna, MN, making the golfing experience here that much better."
Brooktree, likewise, offers golfers a splendid round, as states their website, "This city-owned golf course and clubhouse is nestled along the banks of Maple Creek near the entrance of picturesque Mineral Springs Park. The winding creek is a sensory delight as golfers hear the calming sound of water flowing over smooth rocks, breathe in the fresh air of the lush surroundings and feast their eyes on the beautiful scenic landscape. The babbling brook and abundant trees provide a charming namesake for the course."
For the Junior Open, those aged 13 to 18 years have the option of the first flight with 18 holes each day for $20 or the second flight with nine holes per day for $10. Those ages 4 to 12 play for free at Havan Hills.
