Quentin Tarantino Eyeing Margot Robbie for Sharon Tate Role in Manson Family Film
Just last night we learned that Quentin Tarantino’s next film is a “unique take on the Manson Family murders” — news that sent the internet running through the entire reactionary cycle at an unprecedented speed. Little is known about the project and what Tarantino’s “unique take” on the gruesome true-crime story might be, which only fueled speculation about the film (and inspired plenty of premature judgment calls). A new report offers a few more details about the untitled Manson Family project, most notably that Tarantino has met with Margot Robbie for the role of the late Sharon Tate.
Deadline has shed a little more light on the untitled film, revealing that Brad Pitt is — as some assumed — in talks to play the role of a detective (Vincent Bugliosi, perhaps?) investigating the notorious Manson Family murders. THR originally reported that Jennifer Lawrence is also being courted, and though her potential role remains unknown, it’s definitely not Sharon Tate.
Per Deadline, Tarantino has met with Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie to play the late actress and former wife of director Roman Polanski. Tate was eight and a half months pregnant on August 8, 1969 when she and four others were brutally murdered by Charles Manson’s followers. It’s unclear if Robbie is interested in taking the role, but it wouldn’t be the first time she took on the role of a celebrity; the actress is also producing and starring in I, Tonya, in which she plays disgraced former figure skating champ Tonya Harding.
Deadline additionally revealed that Samuel L. Jackson will “likely” play a lead role in the untitled Manson Family film — hardly surprising, given the actor’s long history with Tarantino, which most recently included a pivotal role in The Hateful Eight.
According to the latest report, Tarantino’s script has yet to be read by anyone and as of now, nothing is official or confirmed. Hopefully that’ll change relatively soon.
