Popular Thanksgiving Tradition May be Ruined This Year
It's always been a tradition in my family to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thanksgiving. It's so fun to watch all of the cool performances and also to see the incredible balloons float through NYC! But this year may be a little different. There's the possibility that there will be no balloons in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
They aren't being party poopers on purpose, unfortunately, the weather forecast is predicting strong winds in New York on Thanksgiving Day. If the winds are strong enough they can't use the balloons in the parade. Now that would be a weird Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade to watch with no balloons!
CNN reports that the balloons "cannot be flown when sustained winds exceed 23 mph and gusts exceed 34 mph, per city regulations." Turns out, the regulations were changed in 1998 because in 1997's parade "the iconic Cat in the Hat balloon injured four people after being overtaken by strong winds."
As much as I love watching the incredible balloons float through NYC, I'd much rather have people stay safe and not be overtaken by a giant balloon whipping around in the wind!
