Panthers Hurt Redskins Playoff Chances With 26-15 Upset
Cam Newton threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns, and the Carolina Panthers upset the Washington Redskins, 26-15, on Monday night. Carolina (6-8) never trailed in the game and delivered a blow to the playoff hopes of Washington (7-6-1) with the surprising outcome.
Redskins’ quarterback Kirk Cousins was 32 of 47 for 316 yards with an interception and no touchdowns. His fumble near his own goal line early in the second half was turned into a touchdown by the Panthers two plays later.
Washington controlled its postseason destiny heading into the game, but it must now get help from other teams to make it into the playoffs.
Jonathan Stewart carried 25 times for 132 yards for Carolina, which still has a faint chance at a wild card berth.
