The Owatonna High School girls tennis team opened the Section 1AA tournament with a 7-0 sweep of Winona. The sixth-seeded Huskies go to third-seed and No. 10-rated Rochester Century Thursday at 4 pm.

On Tuesday, Emily Rahrick, Sara Anderson, Megan Johnson and Olivia Herzog earned singles wins. Leah Tucker/Caitlynne Bussert, Liv Matejcek/Kat McDermott and Jade Hanson/Selena Ong swept doubles.

OHS lost 5-2 to Century early in the season. The winner advances to the section semifinals Tuesday, October 9.

Owatonna girls soccer blanked Winona 7-0 on Senior Night Tuesday at the Lincoln Complex. Senior Emma Zimmerman netted her first two varsity goals. Jordan Whalen also scored twice. Asia Buryska, Grace Wolfe and Gabriela Breuer added goals. The Huskies go to John Marshall Thursday and host a makeup match with Mayo Saturday.

The OHS boys won 7-1 at Winona, scoring six times in the second half. Nolan Burmeister scored twice. Jared Fett, Zach Williams, Derek Huxford, Devin Omangi and Steven Eckard added goals. The Huskies wrap up their regular season Thursday hosting Rochester JM at 7 pm.

Huskies volleyball lost 3-sets-to-none at Rochester Mayo Tuesday, 25-15, 25-16, 25-13. OHS stayed close through the early part of each set, but the Spartans went on an extended run to pull away each time. Liv Johnson had about ten kills for Owatonna with Kaitlyn Madole adding better than a half dozen. The Huskies go to Austin Thursday. Tuesday, October 9 they host Faribault in a match that will be carried by KDHL AM 920.
