The Harry Wenger Marching Band Festival, a big summer draw in Owatonna, has been canceled for 2020. The festival's board announced the "difficult decision" on their Facebook page on Sunday, citing several factors. The event was scheduled for Saturday, June 20 through the streets and downtown area of Owatonna.

The board considered Governor Walz directives on April 23 which included distance learning for the balance of the school year. The board indicated, "This will not allow for marching bands the ability to prepare a show for the typical march season." Another factor is the recommendation of no large group gatherings for the foreseeable future.

The marching band board also stated, "Our city planners, sponsors, and vendors need to be able to plan and/or adjust. This will allow them to focus on the safety and well being of their staff at this time."

The board thanked the bands that were scheduled to appear in Owatonna this summer and announced the next Harry Wenger Marching Band Festival is scheduled for June 19, 2021 with registration opening up on December 1, 2020.
