Reports indicate that Owatonna High School was on lockdown Monday afternoon. A number of Owatonna Police cars were seen outside the building. By 2:30 pm on-site personnel indicated there was no lockdown at that time and that school would release at its usual time.

An automated call from the school went out to district parents Monday afternoon stating that an investigation began over the weekend into some social media postings. The message said no weapons were involved and that the investigation was continuing.

An email to district parents said the high school went on lockdown at 12:30 pm Monday and that Owatonna High School was the only building affected. The message said, "This past weekend, students turned to social media to make offensive comments. Today (Monday, February 11), the Owatonna Public Schools administration in conjunction with local law enforcement responded to assist in de-escalating a situation. No weapons were reported in this incident."

KARE-11 in the Twin Cities reported that police were called in shortly before noon and found a large group of disruptive students around the commons and gym. KARE also reported that three students were taken into custody, one for assaulting an officer, one for trespassing and another for obstruction. No injuries were reported. Social media posts that claimed weapons were present were incorrect according to officials.

The email added, "an investigation began this past weekend and will continue until this issue has been resolved...Owatonna Public Schools administration and staff will continue to provide a safe environment and make safety our number one priority."
