The Region 5C amateur baseball tournament is coming to Fuller Field at Dartt's Park in Owatonna this weekend, but the local nine won't be part of the action. The Aces were eliminated from the playoffs Sunday, August 4 with a 10-1 setback against Austin at John Burch Park in Cannon Falls.

Owatonna, the seventh-seed, had dueled second-seed Stewartville-Racine through six scoreless innings in Saturday's first-round match-up. The Sharks broke through with a four-run seventh inning and beat the Aces 5-1.

The Sharks followed that up with an 8-7 win over third-seed Cannon Falls Sunday. Top-seed Red Wing beat fifth-seed Lake City in the other winner's bracket final. Red Wing and Stewartville-Racine qualified for the state tournament with their second-round wins. One more team from Region 5C will still qualify for state. The rest of the tournament will also set seeds for state.

Owatonna had a strong finish to their season, winning their last four regular season games and beating Pine Island two-games-to-one in a playoff series to qualify for the region tournament.
