Work on the Highway 14 expansion project between Owatonna and Dodge Center is progressing nicely. I have driven the route several times this spring. Some lane shifts are taking place at the points where the current road will connect with the new four-lane addition. The clearing and grading for the new path are well along.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced a new road closure. Dodge County Road H will close near the underpass west of Dodge Center on June 4. Drivers who use County H between Dodge County Road 5 and Dodge Center will need to find an alternate.

The MNDOT news release states, "The closure of the road near the underpass of existing Highway 14 will be permanent on the west side of the underpass and the road will be changed into a cul-de-sac. On the east side of the underpass, the road closure will be a year-long and eventually redirect the to connect with the old portion of Highway 14 once the new route in completed."

The 108-mllion-dollar project will expand 12.5 miles of Highway 14 to four lanes between Owatonna and Dodge Center "to complete a continuous four-lane road between New Ulm and Rochester. The expansion area is a new route for Highway 14, which will stay south of the railroad tracks on the west side of the project, travel south of Claremont and connect with the four-lane highway west of Dodge Center."

Traffic on the new road is expected this fall with final touches on the project coming in 2022.
