MnDOT Ending Winter Load Increases

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) announced that the winter load increases will be ending on Wednesday March 3, 2021 at 12:01 AM for the south, southeast and metro frost zones. During the winter when the frost is in the ground truckers can get a permit to haul a load greater than 80,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. When the frost begins to "come out" of the ground it puts additional stress on the roads so the overweight restrictions are ended.

Typically MnDOT has ended the winter load increases and put the spring road restrictions on at the same time. So, when I first saw the MnDOT news release i assumed the spring load restrictions were going on too. It was a good thing I actually read the news release. However, I sure it is safe to assume very soon the spring load restrictions will be going on too. "MnDOT will continue to evaluate weather forecasts to determine the start date for spring load restrictions in these zones."

I have heard it is not fun getting an overweight ticket, especially during the spring load restrictions. So, I am hopeful I will be done hauling corn in a couple more days!
