MnDOT Announces 30 Road Projects for Southeast Minnesota
While Old Man Winter hasn't completely given up his hold on the region, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) released its list of road construction projects for 2022. This list includes currently ongoing projects, new construction and studies for future work. Thirty-plus projects dot Southeast Minnesota.
Not all of them will involve closed roads and delays. The Highway 14 expansion to a four-lane, divided roadway between Owatonna and Dodge Center opened to traffic on November 9, 2021. Finishing up on the 12.5 mile-long stretch should not involve traffic delays.
Resurfacing Highway 14 from east Rochester to west of Chester and MnDOT will study Reduced Conflict Intersection concepts between Byron and Rochester.
Temporary changes have been placed on Highway 218 at 1st Street NE in Blooming Prairie to improve intersection safety. The highway will be reconstructed through the city in 2024.
Work on Highway 19 this season includes repaving work in Cannon Falls and conducting studies on future paving updates between Lonsdale and Northfield in 2026 and 2028.
Highway 30 reconstruction in Rushford includes tree removal and improving downtown lighting. Two bridge replacements are scheduled to take place along Highway 30 in and near Chatfield in 2023. Public input time is wrapping up.
