Minnesota Twins Delay Home Opener for First Time in Target Field History

It had to happen eventually. With an open-air stadium and early April games on the schedule, the weather is forcing the Minnesota Twins to delay their home and season opener. Originally scheduled for Thursday, April 7, the Twins will now host Seattle on Friday, April 8. Game time remains 3:10 pm with pregame coverage beginning at 2:30 pm on AM 1390 KRFO/94.7FM.

It is the first time the Home Opener at Target Field has been postponed, now in its 13th season. Friday's forecast is a bit better than Thursday's. Temperatures should reach the low 40s Friday. Thursday could be a mix of rain and snow with temps peaking in the mid-30s and windy conditions on top of that.

Fans with tickets to the opener have options. They are good for Friday's game or any other home regular-season game, based on availability. If the ticket was purchased on the secondary market, it may only be valid for the rescheduled game on Friday. Visit the Twins website for more information.

Opening day festivities will be held on Friday, starting with breakfast on the plaza from 6 to 9 am. Gates to Target Field open at 1 pm. Several Twins legends will welcome fans at specific gates. Tony Oliva will be at Gate No. 6, Kent Hrbek at Gate No. 14, Tom Kelly at Gate No. 3, Jim Kaat at Gate No. 29, plus Kirby Puckett Jr and Catherine Puckett at Gate No. 34.

Ceremonial first pitches will be tossed by National Baseball Hall of Fame electees Kaat and Olivia.

The coldest home openers in Twins history came in 1962 at Metropolitan Stadium and 2018 at Target Field with highs in the mid-30s. Friday's temps should be higher than that.
