St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Colorado-based travel company has agreed to refund almost $665,000 to some Minnesota music students.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has announced a settlement has been worked out with Voyageurs International to settle a consumer protection complaint investigation. The funds will be shared by almost 350 students who had signed up for a European "Ambassadors of Music" tour offered by the company.

The company, which has regularly scheduled similar excursions for high school music students and their families, was forced to cancel its 2020 schedule because of the COVID pandemic. The cost for those signing up for the tours ranged from around $6300 to just over $9000 and instead of refunding the full amount, Ellison says Voyageurs International charged each participant a $1900 cancellation fee.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has been hard on businesses and consumers alike — but that doesn’t give businesses the right to treat consumers unfairly,” Attorney General Ellison said. “Minnesota students and their families paid hard-earned money for these travel packages. I’m pleased that Voyageurs is finally making things right and refunding them for services they never received.”

Ellison says his office launched an investigation into the company's dealings after receiving dozens of complaints.
