The Rice County Board of Commissioners today unanimously accepted the low bid from Met-Con Construction of Faribault for the addition and renovation of the Government Services Building in Faribault.  John McNamara of Vold Architects of St. Paul told Commissioners they received five competitive bids   Bids ranged from $6,809,000 to $8,250,000.

Three alternates were also included in the bid. Replacing two existing rooftop units which are reaching the end of their life expectancy, new interior signage to coincide with the newly renovated building and extending walls vertically to provide more sound proofing in conference rooms.

Those alternates raised the total price for the project to $7,280,000.  Still below what Vold estimated would be the cost for the project.

The other companies bidding were from Owatonna, Austin, Rose Creek and Burnsville.

Groundbreaking for the existing building was September 12, 1996 and the dedication of the present facility occurred on October 28, 1997.

The County Board of Commissioners also set a public hearing date and time for the proposed Circle Lake Improvement District.

The public hearing will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. in the Commissioners Room of the Rice County Government Services Building in Faribault.
