The Medford Tigers girls basketball team ended their regular season with a 41-34 win over Waterville-Elysian-Morristown.  The Tigers defeated every team they played during the regular season.  In the process they captured the Gopher Conference championship.

The latest Minnesota Basketball News (MBBN) rankings have Medford (23-0) at #8 in the state in Class 2A.  The Tigers are #19 in the QRF listings.  They received a tough draw to start the playoffs Tuesday when they host last year's Gopher Conference Champion New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva (9-17).  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Medford is the #1 seed in the South Subsection of Section 2 Class 2A.  Waterville-Elysian-Morristown (19-5) received the #2 seed and sees the Fairmont Cardinals (9-15) in their gym.  #3 seed Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial (21-3) entertains Maple River (16-10).  #4 seed St. Peter (11-10) tangles with #5 Blue Earth Area (13-10).

The semifinals of the subsection are scheduled for Friday evening at Mankato East High School.  The Medford game winner plays at 6:00 p.m. against either the #4 or #5 seed.  The WEM game winner faces the #3 or #6 seed at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Mankato East.

In the North Subsection #7 MBBN state ranked Norwood-Young America (22-2) is the top seed and hosts LeSueur-Henderson (4-21).  #2 seed and #19 state ranked Jordan (19-5) tangles with #7 Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (11-12).  #3 seed Tri-City United (17-8) is at home against #6 seed Sibley East (6-14) and the #4 seed Glencoe-Silver Lake (13-12) hosts Belle Plaine (12-11).  The North Subsection semifinals are at Watertown-Mayer High School on Friday.

The Subsection title games will be Tuesday, March 5 at Minnesota State University in Mankato.  The North title game is 6:00 p.m. followed by the South championship contest.
