The Faribault Fire Department, Faribault Police Department and North Memorial Ambulance were all dispatched Friday at 11:40 a.m. to the report of a house fire at 1811 7th Street Northwest in Faribault.  In a news release issued by Fire Chief Dustin Dienst it's stated, "Light brown smoke was observed coming from the structure by initial crews.  The homeowner was at home at the time of the fire and ran to a neighbor's home to call 911."

Dienst says, "Fire crews made a quick knock down of the fire as they were informed that there were no people in the structure.  The fire was contained to the room of origin, but extensive heat and smoke damage affected the entire structure.  Crews spent a lot of time in overhaul mode to ensure that the fire was completely out."

The State Fire Marshall's Office was asked to assist and an investigator did respond to help determine the cause of the blaze.

Dienst says at this time the cause, "is considered under investigation."

In his news release the Faribault Fire Chief says, "The occupant of the home is very lucky to have not sustained an injury, or worse, as a result of this fire."

It was the second house fire this week resulting in extensive damages.

With the snowstorm upon us another reminder to dig out your neighborhood fire hydrant.  If firefighters have to spend time digging out the hydrant during a fire call the minutes spent could mean lost life.
