MBA Class B Will Have a New State Champion
The four time defending State Class B Amateur Baseball Champion Chanhassen Redbirds were defeated 3-2 Saturday in Miesville by the Coon Rapids Redbirds.
Three teams out of Section 1B won on the opening weekend of the Minnesota Baseball Association (MBA) State Amateur Baseball Tournament.
The Dundas Dukes got by the Egan Bandits 4-3 in Dundas yesterday. Northfield High School and St. Olaf College graduate Todd Mathison went the distance on the mound. Mathison allowed 6 hits, 3 runs 2 earned while striking out 12 and walking 1 batter.
The Dukes had 7 hits in the game including a Kyle Hrncir 2 run homer. Garrett Meihoffer had 2 hits including a double.
Kenyon-Wanamingo graduate Drew Sathrum was the starting second baseman for Dundas.
The Dukes play the Blaine Fusion Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
The Miesville Mudhens rolled to a 11-1 win in 7 innings over the Prior Lake Jays Friday night. Riley Ahern allowed 3 hits in 5 and 2/3 innings with 5 strikeouts, 3 walks. Shannon Ahern finished the final 1 and 1/3 innings, no hits, 2 strikeouts 1 walk.
The Mudhens had 9 hits, 1 error and Prior Lake 3 hits, 2 errors.
Joey Werner had 2 hits including a double, Ben Vujovich 2 hits, Deryk Marks 2 hits, 2 RBI, Charley Hesse 2 hits with a double and a home run, 4 RBI to lead the Mudhens in hitting. They also took advantage of 9 walks.
Miesville plays Friday, August 26, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. against the Anoka Bucs.
The Rochester Royals blanked the Hamel Hawks 4-0 Saturday in Miesville. Matt Meyer threw the complete game shutout scattering 5 hits with 9 strikouts and no walks.
Bo McClintock had 3 hits including a double, home run for 3 RBI, Tate Mieners had 2 hits, Drew Block two hits, Nick Pearson 2 hits including a double to lead the Royals 10 hit attack.
The New Market Muskies ended their season with an 11-3 loss to the Moorhead Brewers.
The Muskies had 9 hits, 3 errors, Brewers 13 hits and no errors in the game played in Dundas Sunday.
Brett Herber started the game for New Market going 2 and 1/3 innings with 5 hits, 6 runs, 3 earned, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts and was charged with the loss.
Zach Dohrmann went 1 and 2/3 innings scattering 4 hits, 2 runs, both earned, with 1 strikeout.
Connor Wietgrefe took the ball the next 3 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 earned runs with 2 strikeouts and a walk. Justin Firpo went 2/3 of inning with 1 hit, 1 run, 1 walk.
Moorhead scored 8 runs in the first 4 innings after New Market took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Muskies lead off hitter Alex Berreth cracked 3 hits, 2 solo home runs. Andy Henkemeyer also hammered a solo home run. Mason Trocke had 2 hits and Lincoln Berry hit a triple.
The Brewers tangle with the Champlin Park LoGators at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Opening weekend attendance was down slightly from last year.

Faribault baseball fans and people from all around the area should stop by and experience the fun of watching guys play for the love of the game and not millions of dollars.
The food is very good, drinks are cold and atmosphere is fun. It would be cool to check out all three ballparks.
