Man Accused Of Stealing Mayo Clinic Mobility Scooters

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Criminal charges have been filed in an unusual theft investigation in Rochester.
A homeless man has been charged with stealing battery-powered mobility scooters.
Four felony theft charges have been filed against 31-year-old Trevor Schutz.
The investigation began last April when a Mayo Clinic employee reported the theft of one of the three-wheeled scooters from the subway level of the employee parking ramp located north of the Dan Abraham Healthy Living Center. Three more were stolen over the next few weeks.
A Mayo security specialist was able to identify Schutz as the suspect in the first case and he was later linked to the other thefts.
A police investigator interviewed a man who said Schutz had stolen six scooters and used them until the batteries ran out. The investigator went to a homeless camp near McQuillan Field where Schutz had reportedly been living and found “four mobility scooters that were in poor condition.” Schutz showed up while the investigator was there but walked away and disappeared into the nearby woods.
The value of the scooters stolen from the parking ramp was put at $14,000.
