Win face off. Score goal. Repeat. That's how Lakeville North turned a close game into a blowout in the section semifinals of the boys lacrosse playoffs Friday night, beating Owatonna 20-6. The game was tied at 3-3 with three minutes to go in the first quarter. OHS didn't score again until three minutes remained in the third quarter. North put the ball into the goal 13 times during that stretch.

The Huskies led 1-0 on junior Preston Meier's 31st goal of the season less than a minute into the game. North evened it up a short time later. OHS regained the lead on a two-on-zero break with Zack Kirsch scoring his 53rd goal of the season.

North scored the next two goals for a 3-2 lead. Meier tied it up with 3:04 to go in the first quarter. The Panthers scored four times in the final two minutes of the quarter and outscored OHS 7-0 in the second for a 14-3 halftime lead.

Lakeville North dominated in the face off circle, allowing them a steady stream of offensive possessions and leaving the Huskies on their heels on defense for long stretches of time. Junior goalie Korban Stricklin made many saves but was under constant pressure.

Meier ended up with a hat trick. Freshman Joseph Webster and senior Joseph Bellomy scored their first goals. Others seniors for the Huskies (12-3) and Dominic Valento, Zach Kubicek, Casey Johnson, Wyatt Oldefendt, Zack Kirsch, Caleb Belting, and Fletcher Schulz.

Owatonna reached the semifinals after their exciting 10-9 triple overtime win against Northfield Wednesday, a game coach Scott Seykora was maybe the most fun game he has been a part of in Owatonna. And he has been the coach for every boys lacrosse game in OHS history. The Huskies are yet to reach a section final in lacrosse.

OHS grad Braeden Meier assisted on the Kat Kountry 105 broadcast Friday night, delivering a standout performance of informing listeners on the rules and nuances of the game. Meier is an incoming senior for the Wittenberg University team.
