The City of Northfield has ended the advisory on Cannon River Recreational Use, following the discharge of wastewater into the River Tuesday.

Water test quality results show bacteria levels have decreased below recreational water quality levels.

Dakota County is reopening Lake Byllesby Regional Park beach.

The beach had been closed due to a Northfield wastewater treatment plant sewage discharge on Tuesday, July 3.

Out of concern for public health and safety, Dakota County began testing water samples immediately on July 3 at Lake Byllesby Regional Park beach based on the Minnesota Department of Heath swimmable standards for public beaches. Results from three consecutive days of sampling indicate the water meets the state swimmable standards. Dakota County’s standard management practice is to test water at all beaches weekly and increase the frequency of testing in special circumstances as this situation was.

They said they appreciate the public’s understanding during this unexpected closure and apologize for any inconvenience this closure may have caused.

For information about the wastewater discharge, contact Northfield Public Works Director David Bennett at 507-645-3006.
