July 2017 New Music Releases
In a month dominated by reissues, a few new albums stand out – including one from the reigning shock rocker, a pair of comeback albums and a cool collaboration.
Topping the list of July 2017 New Music Releases is Alice Cooper's Paranormal, which features a stack of original solo material. But there are also three new songs written and recorded with the surviving members of the original Alice Cooper band, as well as "carefully selected live recordings."
Elsewhere, Mr. Big's Defying Gravity finds bassist Billy Sheehan, singer Eric Martin, guitarist Paul Gilbert and drummer Pat Torpey working with producer Kevin Elson for the first time since 1993. Elson produced their first three albums.
The Riverdogs have reconvened the band's original lineup for their first new album since 2011. Rob Lamothe, Nick Brophy and Vivian Campbell produced the Riverdogs' self-titled 1990 debut, but then Campbell split, eventually joining Def Leppard.
Then there's the new Santana record, which finds Carlos Santana continuing a collaboration with the Isley Brothers that began on last year's well-received Santana IV reunion LP.
As for that pile of reissues, get ready to dig into great old sounds from the Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, Iron Maiden, the Ramones, the Monkees, the Cars and Fleetwood Mac, among many others.
