Jam-Packed Day for Huskies has OT Loss and 5-Goal Outburst
A busy day for Owatonna High School athletics included five varsity teams competing on Saturday. Huskies boys hoops played in the Breakdown Classic at Kasson-Mantorville where they lost a tough one, falling 58-52 in overtime to Park (Cottage Grove). The wrestlers were in their second day of The Clash National Wrestling Duals held in LaCrosse, WI. OHS dropped their three matches after winning two out of three on Friday.
OHS gymnastics turned in a solid second place finish at the Faribault Invitational. Boys swimming and diving was at the Austin Invite. Owatonna girls hockey capped the night with a 5-1 win at Hastings. [Keep scrolling for more details...]
In the basketball game, OHS led most of the way versus the No. 18 rated Wolfpack. A Park player drilled a three-pointer with five seconds to go in regulation to tie the game at 47-47 and they went on to win 58-52 in overtime. The No. 7 ranked Huskies were led by Brayden Williams who scored 20 including his 1,000th career point.
Ty Creger added 17. Evan Dushek was held to four points before fouling out. He also left in the first half with an injury but was able to return for the second half. The Wolfpack recently welcomed back Gopher recruit Pharrel Payne to the floor from injury.
OHS hosts Faribault Tuesday, January 11 at 7:30 pm with coverage on AM 1390 KRFO, 94.7 FM and the KRFO app.
OHS girls hockey had five goal scorers in their 5-1 win at Hastings. Izzy Radel, Macy Stanton, Olivia Herzog, Ezra Oien and Samantha Bogen all found the back of the net. The Huskies play at Northfield Thursday, January 13 with radio coverage on Kat Kountry 105 FM. Both teams are unbeaten in Big Nine play.
Huskies wrestling was in Division 3 for Saturday. They lost to Marshfield, WI 43-23, Hersey IL 36-31 and Shakopee MN 53-24. St. Michael-Albertville beat Vacaville CA for the championship.
OHS gymnastics scored 141.5 to finish second at the 16-team Faribault meet. Wayzata took top honors with 143.9.
