Southeast Minnesota’s ‘Fake Spring’ Ends This Weekend

Spring today. Winter tomorrow. True Minnesotans know that we have 4 or 5 fake springs before we're truly done with winter and most of us don't bother packing the shovels and snow blowers away until mid to late April.

This year is no different. The Rochester and southeast Minnesota region will enjoy a beautiful Friday with partly cloudy skies and a high temp in the low to mid-50, but winter will return this weekend. The National Weather Service just issued a winter weather advisory for our area,

Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Rochester and SE Minnesota

The National Weather Service says winter weather could impact travel on Saturday and has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Rochester and southeast Minnesota, effective from 6 AM to 6 PM Saturday.

What to Expect Saturday:

• The "Heavy Band" Effect: A narrow band of heavy snow is expected to develop tomorrow morning.

• Intensity: Snowfall rates could hit 1" to 2" per hour within that band. Because the band is so narrow, even a small shift in the storm's track will drastically change how much snow actually hits your driveway.

• Accumulations: Forecasts currently predict totals between 1 and 4 inches, with the highest confidence for accumulation stretching from the Minnesota/Iowa border into western Wisconsin.

Travel Impacts:

Expect slippery road conditions and poor visibility throughout the day on Saturday. If you’re heading out, give yourself extra time to reach your destination safely and keep those headlights on when driving.
