Rochester School District Employee Charged in Child Porn Case
Rochester, MN (RochesterNow)- The Rochester School District employee who was arrested following a child pornography investigation has been formally charged.

On Friday the Rochester Public School District (RPS) announced the arrest of an individual employed as an Educational Support Professional working at three schools in the district.
He was arrested on suspicion of possession of child sexual abuse materials (CSAM).
The district’s statement indicated his access to district technology and facilities had been revoked, that RPS was cooperating with the law enforcement investigation and that an internal investigation was underway.
An RPS spokesperson says he’s currently on administrative leave until further notice.
Rochester Public Schools Employee Charged With Felony in Child Porn Case
On Monday, 41-year-old Jim Robert Vin was arraigned on a felony charge of possession of pornographic work depicting a minor under the age of 14.
The criminal complaint says Rochester police received a cyber tip in August regarding an image depicting CSAM being uploaded to discord.
Investigators traced the tip to an IP address belonging to Vin and executed a search warrant at his home on Friday.
The court document describes the image as a 5-9 year old boy engaging in a sexual act. A search of his devices remains ongoing.
RPS Issues Follow-up Statement
In a follow-up statement issued on Monday, RPS indicated they have “no information that suggests Jim Vin engaged in inappropriate conduct of a sexual nature towards any RPS students.”
RPS also shared more information about Vin’s work with the district as an Educational Support Professional.
Monday’s statement says Vin worked at following locations during the following times:
Washington Elementary from August 17, 2026, to September 18, 2026,
Dakota Middle School from September 2, 2025, to June 3, 2026,
Willow Creek Middle School from August 22, 2023, to May 31, 2024 and August 20, 2024 to February 25, 2025
School Aged Child Care in 2008.
The Rochester man also substituted as an Educational Support Professional at the following locations during the following times:
John Adams Middle School in 2007
Century High School, Willow Creek Middle School, John Marshall High School, Pinewood Elementary School, Franklin Elementary School in 2008
Jefferson Elementary School, Friedell Middle School, Franklin Elementary School, John Marshall High School, Century High School in 2009
Burr Oak Preschool, Gage Elementary Schools in 2010
Education Services Center, transportation department, Riverside Elementary School, Gage Elementary School, Gibbs Elementary School, Folwell Elementary School in 2011.
RPS says parents and educators of students who attended those schools during those times may want to check in on them.
“If you have concerns or questions, please contact the lead principal of the school where your child attends or where you work. If you have concerns that are not specific to one school, contact the Office of School Leadership and Support at 507-328-4300,” the RPS statement says.

Vin was released without bail following his first court appearance. He’s due back in court next month.
