RPU Warns of Scam Targeting Rochester Residents
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester Public Utilities has issued an alert concerning a scam targeting its customers.
The advisory says RPU has been receiving reports of scam calls by people falsely claiming to be with the municipal utility. The statement says the scammers threaten the disconnection of service unless an immediate payment is made, even if the customer's account does not have a balance.

RPU says, in some cases, the scammers are providing phone numbers for customers to call.
Anyone receiving one of these calls is advised to immediately hang up and call RPU directly at 507-280-1500 to verify whether the call was legitimate. RPU customers are also urged not to share personal or payment information with anyone who contacts you unexpectedly or provides a number to call back.
