Spring break season will be here before you know it and many people are starting to think of where they want to jet off too!

I just got back from a cruise and there really is nothing like escaping during the wintertime and getting to see some sunshine, especially if you live in the Northland.

Unfortunately, it looks like there are two places that you should avoid traveling to this spring break season and until further notice.

The U.S. Department of State is warning everyone to avoid traveling to these two places for a variety of reasons, some a bit scary.

Jamaica

This one hurts because it is one of my favorite places that I have ever been! The U.S. Department of State currently has a level three warning for Jamaica, asking everyone to reconsider due to crime in the area.

First and foremost, the warning says that Jamaica has a high crime rate where sexual assaults and armed robberies are common, even at tourist resorts. Even worse? Tourists have reported 'slow or unsatisfactory' responses to crime.

That's not all, though.

The same warning urges residents to be cautious because they may not get the same health care they would here and it might cost more. Americans traveling to Jamaica are asked to avoid walking at night or traveling by public bus.

Trinidad & Tobago

There is also a level three alert for travel to the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, mainly due to crime like terrorism and kidnapping. Woah.

Violent crime is also common, according to this report, like murder, robbery, assault, home invasions and kidnapping. Gang activity is also common, including narcotics trafficking.

Terrorist attacks are also not uncommon, targeting big tourist hubs like hotels, clubs, restaurants and major sporting events.

Be Prepared

If you are still planning on traveling here, you are asked to avoid traveling at night and avoid wearing watches or jewelry.

These are pretty scary warnings. Be careful no matter where you're traveling this spring break season.

The Official U.S. Government 'Do Not Travel' List

Traveling to unique and exotic places rather than the usual tourist traps can be quite an adventure. However, it's crucial to research your destination thoroughly.

While every trip comes with some degree of risk, requiring you to mind your surroundings and take some precautions, there are some places you just shouldn't visit, as they are not worth the risk.

The United States government has a convenient website that helps by listing travel advisories they have in place for countries all over the world, ranking the risk from Level 1 through Level 4.

If a country is issued a Level 4 advisory, you should NOT travel there. As of November 2024, the countries below are on the 'Do Not Travel' list.
