It’s FIre Prevention Week 2019
This week is National Fire Prevention Week. October 6 to 12. The National Fire Protection Association is a global nonprofit, established in 1896. The Faribault Fire Department held their open house Saturday. Fire Chief Dusty Dienst was a guest on the KDHL AM Minnesota program last Monday.
The Faribault Fire Chief told us the theme for this year's Fire Prevention Week is, ""Not every hero wears a cape. Plan and Practice your Escape." Every second counts when a fire breaks out and you need to plan two ways out. The NFPA says you could have less than 2 minutes to escape a home fire from the time a smoke alarm sounds.
This week make sure you spend some time with your family going over a plan of escape in case of a fire emergency. Remember you don't have a plan unless you practice it.
Home fires are the biggest public safety threat facing families today, with one home fire reported every 86 seconds.
Here is some information from NFPA .
