Icy Conditions Lead to Over 100 Crashes on Minnesota Roads
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A quick hitting overnight precipitation system left Commuters with slick roads across southern Minnesota Wednesday morning.
MnDOT said as of 8 a.m. the majority of major roadways in the Rochester area are either partially or completely covered with ice or a light slush. Several crashes and spinouts have been reported north of Rochester in Goodhue and Wabasha Counties.
The State Patrol says troopers responded to 120 crashes, 10 with injury, 116 spin outs and 19 jack-knifed semis statewide between 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. The icy conditions have caused the closure of I-94 in western Wisconsin.
In the Twin Cities, Metro Transit pulled its buses off the roads due to icy conditions. Some of the lines began resuming service around 8 a.m.
School districts to the east and west of Rochester delayed or called off class Wednesday. For a complete list of closings and delays and real time road conditions visit the KROC News App.
