The Owatonna High School boys basketball team completed a busy opening week of the season with a 91-86 overtime win against Albert Lea Friday night, a day after a dramatic victory over Rochester Century. The OHS girls won at Albert Lea 54-47 in a game with 11 lead changes.

The Huskies boys had a double-digit lead slip away for a second straight night but again rallied for the win. Friday they needed overtime to beat the Tigers, who were led by Dylan Scherff's 48 points, which might be an Albert Lea school record.

Jared Fett poured in 30 points and grabbed 19 rebounds. Steven Eckard had 24 points and Jack Hanson chipped in 11. OHS struggled from the free throw line but dominated the boards approximately 42-20. The Huskies host Red Wing Tuesday, December 18 at 7:30 pm.

The Owatonna girls survived a back-and-forth tussle at the Tigers' gym, trading the lead eight times in the first half and three times in the second. Additionally, there were eight ties. OHS trailed 28-27 at halftime.

Sara Anderson led Owatonna with 17 points. Lexi Mendenhall scored 12, including a 6-for-6 night at the free throw line. Emma Dahnert added eight points, highlighted by a pair of three-pointers in the second half. Ari Shornock had six points. Molly Hawkins and Annika Harper had second-half three-pointers as their only baskets.

Owatonna goes to No. 9-AAA Red Wing Tuesday, December 18 at 7:30 pm on Kat Kountry 105FM and the Kat Kountry app.
