Huskies Sail by Falcons, Tigers
The Owatonna High School soccer teams scored dominating victories over their nearby Faribault rivals Tuesday. The OHS girls buried the Falcons 17-3 with seven different scorers and at least two hat tricks. The Huskies boys blanked their counterparts 4-nil on Senior Night at the Lincoln Soccer Complex. Plus the Owatonna girls tennis squad topped Albert Lea 6-1.
In the girls soccer match, broadcast on Kat Kountry 105, Owatonna's Ezra Oien scored 30 seconds into the match and added her second goal 90 seconds later. The Huskies led 4-0 less than seven minutes into the match and 9-0 at halftime. Hillary Haarstad netted four goals, after notching a hat trick in Saturday's 9-1 victory over Austin.
Oien had at least three goals. Lydia Nelson, Abby Vetsch and Emelia Marks each scored at least twice. Regular goalkeeper Greta Korbel scored her varsity goal after switching jerseys to play up in the second half. Ari Shornock and Anna Herzog also scored.
Owatonna (3-2) will host Albert Lea Friday, September 18 at 7 pm at the Lincoln Soccer Complex in Owatonna. Tuesday's game at Bruce Smith Field offered an opportunity for a pregame snack with a food truck in the nearby Faribault Ice Arena parking lot. Concession stands are not being used due to health protocol currently.
The OHS boys turned in a clean sheet versus the Falcons, winning 4-0 at Lincoln on Tuesday. Nolan Burmeister, Zack Kirsh, Alex Ulrich, and Connor Whalen had Owatonna's goals. The Huskies (3-2) play at Albert Lea Friday night. Plans are to broadcast the match on Kat Kountry 105 FM and on the free Kat Kountry 105 app.
Owatonna girls tennis got a sweep in singles against Albert Lea, all in straight sets with Oliva Herzog (6-1, 6-0), Megan Johnson (6-1, 6-1), Alex Huemoeller (6-0, 6-2), and Olivia McDermott (6-2, 6-1).
Doubles wins were Caitlynne Bussert/Cora Barrett (6-3, 6-2) and Alivia Schuster/Emma Herzog (6-7, 6-0, 6-0). Lauren Thamert/Klara Blacker lost 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. The Huskies 6-1 win puts them at 5-1 for the season. They play at Rochester JM Thursday, September 17.
