The Hometown Sampler is a fundraiser for the Steele County Food Shelf, which will be this weekend at 7PM Friday, two shows at 3PM and 7PM Saturday, with a 1:30PM matinee Sunday at the Little Theater of Owatonna, 560 Dunnell Drive. John Havelka and Dave Otto emcee. Admission is a nonperishable food item or a monetary donation.

Music is performed by local bands Hot 'N Bothered, The GOGS, Bad Tangerines and Mile 5 Band. I reached out and found out who they are.

Here is part one with bands Hot 'N Bothered and the Bad Tangerines. Part two will be The GOGS and Mile 5 Band.

Mike Chinander sent the information about Hot 'N Bothered. He said that the seven-member band formed in 1998 to support the Hometown Sampler and will get together to play a benefit or two in the summer or fall.

Hot 'N Bothered play folk, country, rock and cajun, and the members include:

  • John Lestock: guitar, lead and background vocals
  • Mike Chinander: mandolin, accordion, keyboards, guitar and vocals
  • Colin Whalen: bass, lead and background vocals
  • Vianna Bolen: lead and background vocals
  • Kirsten Endrud: violin, harmonica and background vocals
  • Jessica Dandt: keyboards, lead and background vocals
  • Paul Kunkel: drums, guitar and banjo

Michael Ferch sent the information about Bad Tangerines, who also formed to perform their a capella sound at the Hometown Sampler. Ferch says they do perform at other local events.

Members of Bad Tangerines are Mark Sebring, Jodie Dekam, Tim VanGelder, Tammi Ferch and Mike Ferch.

Bad Tangerines will perform current classics to country and mixing "serious and sarcastic" using only their voices and some percussion to sing familiar songs in an unfamiliar way.
