On Sunday, December 6, The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train made a stop in Owatonna as it travels to spread holiday cheer and all along the way helping local food shelves. Since it began in 1999, the train has raised more than $10.6 million and nearly 4 million pounds of food. This is year 17 of the Holiday Train and it stops in Owatonna every other year. This marks their third stop in Owatonna.

Before the Holiday Train stopped, the crowd was entertained by Ryan Gillespie singing a few songs before and after the OHS Carolers. Santa was there handing out candy canes to the little ones. The crowd grew and grew waiting for the Holiday Train to arrive near the Owatonna Bus Company.

The stage car opened on both sides so that many more people could hear Manitoba's Doc Walker and Kira Isabella singing some great songs. The show started off with "Run, Rudolph, Run" and "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree."

The Canadian Pacific Railway made a generous donation of $7,500 to the Steele County Food Shelf. Owatonna Mayor Tom Kuntz and Steele County Food Shelf Director Stormy Trom accepted the check.

The show continued with Doc Walker and Kira Isabella switching off singing, some songs were their original songs, like Doc Walker's "Beautiful Life."

They also sang "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" and a rendition of "Christmas Time" to the tune of "Staying Alive" by the Bee Gees.

What a great turnout and great music, spreading holiday cheer and helping a great cause. It was pretty nice weather, too.
