Georgia high school teacher, Donlean Andrews, won $10,000 because she was the first person to read through all of the fine print of her travel insurance from Squaremouth, a Florida-based insurance company! BRB, reading the fine print on all of my stuff now. Donlean had purchased travel insurance because she and some friends were going on a trip to London.

Apparently, Donlean always reads all of the fine print on documents and this time she happened to be rewarded for it! She noticed that deep in the fine print there was contest information stating that whoever was the first person to read all of the fine print, start to finish would win $10,000.

Donlean lucked out, the contest had just launched 23 hours prior to her contacting the company! I thought for sure this contest would have been going on for years.

Here's what Squaremouth had to say on their website about the contest after Donlean had claimed her prize:

We understand most customers don’t actually read contracts or documentation when buying something, but we know the importance of doing so. We created the top-secret Pays to Read campaign in an effort to highlight the importance of reading policy documentation from start to finish.

Matador Network says that Donlean was awarded her $10,000, Squaremouth donated another $10,000 to a children's literacy charity, and $5,000 each to two high schools "as part of the insurance company’s “Pays to Read” campaign."

Donlean plans to use the money to go on a trip to Scotland with her husband for their 35th anniversary and to celebrate her retirement.
