Owatonna High School gymnastics is back on track after winning the elite Faribault Invitational Saturday, January 5 for the first time. The Huskies scored a season-high 146.25 just two meets after slipping below 140 for the first time in who knows how long.

OHS is up to No. 3 in the latest Class AA rankings from the Gymnastics Coaches Association. Owatonna outdistanced four other top ten ranked teams in Faribault, No. 4 East Ridge, No. 6 Cambridge-Isanti, No. 7 Wayzata and No. 8 Anoka. The Huskies also finished in front of a pair of Section 1AA teams, No. 17 Northfield and No. 18 Rosemount. OHS has gone to state the last three season, finishing third each of the last two years.

The H & R Block of Owatonna Stat Sheet Stuffers are Owatonna gymnasts Ali An and Lindsay Bangs. An led Owatonna to a solid win Thursday, January 3 in their home opener. The Huskies scored 145.625 compared to Red Wing's 128.05. An, a senior, earned top all-around honors with 37.15. Her individual scores were 9.275 on bars, 9.4 on vault, 9.1 on beam and 9.375 on floor exercise.

In Saturday's Faribault meet, An was third overall with the same 37.15 score. Sophomore Lindsay Bangs took second in the all-around with 37.2. Head coach Tom Smith had said prior to the meet that the event had the feel of a state competition. OHS narrowly missed the title in Faribault last season.
