Governor Walz Considering Keeping Golf Courses Open
Governor Walz is considering keeping golf courses open during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic after seeing a petition. Over 15,000 people have signed the petition on Change.org.
As of right now, golf courses fall under the places of amusement category meaning Governor Walz is forcing them to be closed along with restaurants, hair salons, etc.
It's clear on the petition that the organizer, John Potter, has really thought this out. On the petition he writes:
Social distancing will be maintained, ProShops may remain closed (contactless payment on the 1st tee /starter shack or prepayment will allow the courses to get up and running financially), power carts can be restricted or sanitized thoroughly before and after each use (single rider), pins removed from greens (and holes filled to a height ensuring a golfer can retrieve his/her golf ball without touching the cup), no rental equipment during this time, no rakes in the bunkers (rake with your foot), water coolers removed, and other measures protect and ensure the safety of the golfers.
Bring Me the News reports that Governor Walz is considering allowing gold courses to be open, stating, "'my approach was I'm encouraging people to do healthy things. I make the argument with my team - I'll listen to the health experts on this - if there is the potential to be able to allow people to pay online to get out there and be able to do this, we'll explore that.'"
