No. 3 seed Goodhue pulled away for a 54-29 win over Lake Park-Audubon in the state Class AA quarterfinals at Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota.

The Wildcats advance to the semifinals Friday at 2PM vs. Central Minnesota Christian at Target Center. All four semifinal games Friday will be heard on KDHL AM 920 and online at

Before the game, Goodhue coach Matt Halverson told KDHL's Gordy Kosfeld the keys to the game. Then his team executed well on each one. They needed to mark 6-foot-9 junior Jesse Bergh and keep him under control. Wildcats junior Jacob McNamara held the big man to 15 points and two rebounds, both well below his average. Goodhue limited the Raiders' second-chance points by allowing just two offensive rebounds to Lake Park. The Wildcats only had eight turnovers and drove to the basket for easier shots all night long.

Ben Opsahl and Ryan Alpers led Goodhue with 13 points each. McNamara added 10 to go along with 10 rebounds. Each team shot 39 percent but the Wildcats had 23 more shots thanks to a 36-20 rebounding advantage and 18 forced turnovers. A 17-4 run in the first half gave Goodhue 12-point halftime lead.

Goodhue (23-9) will play No. 2 seed Central Minnesota Christian (27-3) at 2PM at Target Center on Friday on KDHL AM 920. The Bluejays held Mountain Iron-Buhl to less than 20 percent shooting. The other semifinal features top seed Minneapolis North (27-5) against Red Lake (24-7) at noon. North dominated St. Clair 80-27 while the Warriors outlasted Browerville-Eagle Valley 66-52.
