The latest Minnesota Basketball News (MBBN) rankings have Goodhue #3 after a win this week over #15 rated Rochester Lourdes in Class 2A.

The Wildcats are scheduled to face Class 1A #6 Minneota in a showcase event Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Kasson-Mantorville High School.  Tip-off time is 5:00 p.m.  The Vikings are three time defending state champions in Class 1A.

Before their 58-52 win over the Eagles the Wildcats downed #4 Class 2A St. Croix Lutheran at Byron 54-46.  They also have wins over Class 2A #9 Sauk Centre 51-38 and #11 Lake City 53-50.

Not only are those wins impressive but all came on the road.

Goodhue's only loss happened during the Winona State University Holiday Showcase against Winona Cotter 69-48.  The Ramblers are ranked #16 in Class 2A.

The Wildcats are averaging 66 points a game while allowing 47.7.  In true Goodhue fashion they get after it with high pressure defense that gets them transition points.

However they are also able to execute in a half court game when necessary.

Four Big Nine Conference schools are among the state's elite according to MBBN.

In Class 4A Rochester John Marshall is #20 with a 6-5 record.

Back to back wins against Lakeville North 57-48 and Red Wing 48-38 probably caught the attention of MBBN.

In Class 3A undefeated Austin is #1, Mankato East #7, Mankato West #9 (East beat West this week at Minnesota State Mankato).

Three South Suburban teams are in the top 18 in Class 4A.  Rosemount #9, Shakopee #10, Prior Lake #18.

It's been awhile since no Lakeville schools were in the Top 20.
