The Goodhue Wildcats took advantage of 19 Kenyon-Wanamingo turnovers on their way to a 59-47 win in the Wildcats Jungle Tuesday night.

The Knights had a brief lead in the first half when 6'9 senior Paul Kortsch was altering and blocking shots for them but when he came out for a rest Goodhue took the ball right to the basket to push the lead up to double digits.

Kenyon-Wanamingo was able to whittle the lead down to 7 points at the half.

It didn't take long for the Wildcats to push the lead back up to double digits in the second half.

With around 2:20 to go in the game it was a two possession 6 point lead but turnovers by the Knights and fouls led to Goodhue winning by ther double digit margin.

The Wildcats were simply more physical.  6'4 senior forward Dayne Wojcik scored 21 points to earn our Cashwise Foods and Pharmacy of Owatonna Delivery of the game for delivering consistent hustle throughout the contest.

Wojcik had 11 first half and 10 second half points.  Junior guard 6'6 Will Opsahl had 16 points thanks in large part to 7 of 8 shooting at the free throw line.  6'3 junior guard Adam Poncelet was the other Goodhue player in double figures with 11 points.

Our Held Bus Service of Kenyon Knights of the game were seniors Luke Alme and Laden Nerison. 6'2 Alme led the Knights in scoring with 16 points.  He was 6 of 8 from the free throw line. 6'3 Nerison was 4 of 5 from the charity stripe and ended the game with 14 points.

Goodhue improves to 1-1 and goes to Cannon Falls Thursday night.  Kenyon-Wanamingo also 1-1 goes to New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Friday night.

The Wildcats are playing in the Winona State Holiday Tournament.  They play Alma, Wisconsin December 27, 2021 at 6:15 p.m. then Winona Cotter on December 28, 2021 at 5:15 p.m.

The Knights are in a six team event at Tri-City United in Montgomery.  Other teams include Houston, Janesville-Waldorph-Pemberton, Lester Prairie and LeSueur-Henderson.
