Minnesota is celebrating International Polar Bear Day in a BIG way!  Our state has a brand new resident- Nan the Polar Bear!  Como Park Zoo and Conservatory made the fun and exciting announcement along with photos on their Facebook page.

Big news, just in time for International #PolarBearDay! Meet Como’s newest resident, Nan, a 26-year-old female!

Meet Nan! The newest polar bear at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory

Give a great big Minnesota welcome to Nan! She is one of Minnesota's newest residents and is a polar bear at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory.

Don't you just want to give her a great big hug?  I know, she is a polar bear so that may not be the best thing but she just looks so cuddly.

According to the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory website, Nan has gone through the mandatory quarantine period and is getting used to her new home.  Her soon-to-be roommate, Neil, is also getting some behind-the-scenes introductions too.

All about Nan!  Before you visit, check out these fun facts about the newest polar bear:

  • She was discovered under a house in Barrow, Alaska after she was orphaned.
  • Because she was too young and not able to take care of herself yet, she went to Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma, Washington and lived there for 5 years.
  • She then spent 16 years at the Toledo Zoo.
  • The last 4 years, she has been at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago.

You can find more info about the brand new polar bear in Minnesota at the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory website and also look for videos on the "Como Live" series that happen every Monday and Thursday on Como's Facebook page.

Como fans are super excited to see this newest addition especially after the sad news in August when we heard that a familiar face at the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory had passed away.  Buzz the polar bear was a staple at the zoo for many years next to Neil, his twin brother, but sadly passed away after suspected neurological issues.
