Former U of M-Rochester Professor Sent Back to Prison

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A former University of Minnesota-Rochester professor who previously did a stint in prison for a child pornography conviction is headed back to prison.

54-year-old Christopher Dezutter was sentenced today to a total of 53 months in prison for his conviction on two counts of possession of pornography by a person previously convicted of child pornography crimes. He was given credit for 254 days he has already spent in jail and will be on supervised release for 15 years after his prison sentence is completed.

Dezutter pleaded guilty in the case in May through a plea deal that resulted in the dismissal of five other charges filed against him in January of last year. The investigation resulting in the charges was launched last December after Rochester police were notified that a monitoring app installed on his cell phone as part of his probation had detected pornographic images on the device.

Dezutter previously served a four-year prison sentence for a child pornography conviction in 2017 for an offense that occurred while he was on probation for a 2015 child pornography conviction. That case involved the discovery of child porn materials on both his personal computer and a laptop that was issued to him by his employer at the time, the University of Minnesota-Rochester.
