The family asked the Shakopee Police Department to share a statement from the family. The statement thanks all those who've shown America's family support.
Thank you to everyone in the Shakopee community that showed support for our loss. The thoughts, prayers, and outreach have been overwhelming and very much appreciated. It is clear that my mother touched and positively affected many lives in your community, it is also clear that the Shakopee community sticks together, is strong, and has a huge heart. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.- The Thayer Family
In addition to sharing the family's statement, the Shakopee Police also took all of the items that were placed at the scene of the crime as a memorial to America to the celebration of life event.
Thayer was killed on July 28th after she and her boyfriend, 42-year-old Alexis Saborit, got into an argument in the vehicle they were driving in Shakopee. The argument involved the status of the relationship between the two.
Saborit was subsequently arrested for the brutal crime and admitted to killing Thayer.
Saborit is still in the Scott County Jail after being held on $2.5 bail, Saborit's next court appearance will be October 25th.
