Finstad and Ettinger Easily Won Their 1st District Primary Races

The race to represent Minnesota's First Congressional District will feature a battle between Republican Brad Finstad and Democrat Jeff Ettinger.

As of late Tuesday night, with more than 80 percent of the precincts reporting, Ettinger had more than 90 percent of the votes in the Democratic primary, where he faced challenges from George Kalberer and James Rainwater.

On the Republican side of the ballot, Finstad easily defeated challenger Jeremy Munson. Finstad, who is the Republican Party endorsed candidate, attracted more than 75 percent of the votes cast in the primary election.

Finstad and Ettinger are also facing off in the special election to choose an interim successor to the late Republican Congressman Jim Hagedorn for the remaining few months of his term in office. The Minnesota Secretary of State Office had earlier indicated there would likely be a delay in reporting the results of the special election due to extra steps that need to be taken because of the change in the boundaries of the congressional district in the wake of the 2020 census.
