Field of Dreams Game Auction Raised a Ton of Money for an Iowa Hospital

The first ever Major League Baseball game to be held at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville made a positive impact on the state of Iowa in more ways than one!

I think anyone who witnessed the Field of Dreams game back on August 12th would tell you that the night was a huge success. The weather was perfect, the game was entertaining, and I think everyone felt the nostalgia. We Are Iowa reports that the iconic game between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox was the "most-watched regular season MLB game in 16 years." Another great outcome of the game was how much money it raised for one of Iowa's hospitals.

According to a new article from KCRG, we now know exactly how much the auction of official game memorabilia that took place online after the event raised, and it's a LOT. A $215,000 donation has been given to the MercyOne Dubuque Cancer Center! $33,590 of that money was raised from just one auction item, which was the jersey of New York Yankee Aaron Judge. We Are Iowa quotes MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred who said in a statement, “We are thrilled that this MLB at Field of Dreams Game auction led to a meaningful donation in support of the Eastern Iowa community.”

MercyOne announced in a press release that all that money will go to the cancer center endowment fund, which benefits the Nurse Navigator Program, the Cancer SAFE (Supporting Associated Family Expenses) Fund, and clinical trials. You can see the full press release from MercyOne HERE.
