Faribault Hospice Event Details on KDHL

The Faribault Area Hospice Foundation continues their traditional ceremony of lighting a hospice tree on the District One Hospital campus Monday, December 3rd at 7:00 p.m.  Part of the tradition is a broadcast on KDHL Radio for those who can't attend what has become one of my personal favorite events of the holiday season.  Particularly in years when I've experienced the loss of someone I love.

It never ceases to amaze me when the lights go on and we all join in the singing of Christmas songs the gasps and oohs expressed from the crowd.  Why is that amazing you ask?  I'm guessing most of the people in the crowd have attended the event a number of times over the years.

This is the 33rd year for the Light Up A Life campaign.  Proceeds from the sale of the bulbs lit in memory of people benefit Hospice patients and families in the Faribault area.

Faribault Area Hospice Foundation Executive Director Rick Miller will be joined by Audra Tebo on today's KDHL AM Minnesota program at 9:30 a.m.

After the brief lighting ceremony outside the Allina District One Hospital Surgery Center refreshments will be served.

Cost for a bulb has not changed a penny in the event's over three decades of existence.  It's still $5.00.  Donation forms are still available at area banks and in the hospital lobby.

Names are displayed in the Light Up A Life memorial book displayed in the lobby of District One.  Donations received by the end of this year will be included in the memorial book.

One of the reasons this is one of my favorite events is it's brevity and simplicity.  A perfect match for the Christmas season.

It slows me down during the hustle and bustle of the holidays and makes me focus on what is really important.  Relationships with the people we have been blessed to have in our lives.
