Early Morning Faribault Fire Results In A Damaged Attic Area & No Injuries

There was a structure fire in Faribault this morning, resulting in no injuries or deaths but damage to the home's attic. According to a press release from the Faribault Fire Department, Chief Dusty Dienst stated that the residents of the home were alerted to the fire by alarms in the home, and "This is a perfect example of why we need to maintain our alarms.”

According to a press release sent out by the Faribault Fire Department:

At 7:55 am on November 13, 2021, the Faribault Fire Department, Faribault Police Department, and North Memorial Ambulance Service responded to a structure fire at 1204 Central Ave.   A caller reported smoke coming from the home at that address. Upon our arrival, there was smoke coming out of the roof area in the back of the house. 

Firefighters performed a primary search of both the first and second floors looking for victims and for fire.  No one was located inside the home and there was only light smoke in the home.  Further searching found the fire in the attic area in an addition on the rear of the home. The attic area was opened up from both inside the home and on the exterior of the home to gain access to the seat of the fire.  Firefighters extinguished all hot spots and cleared the scene at 9:40 am.  

The Faribault Fire Department conducted an investigation and determined that the fire was accidental.  The occupants of the home had noticed the dimming of lights the night before and suspected some electrical issues. The seat of the fire was in an area of the attic that had multiple electrical cables running through it.

Fire Chief Dustin Dienst commented, “Thankfully there were no injuries at this house fire.  The occupants of the home were alerted by the smoke alarms and they exited the home immediately.  This is a perfect example of why we need to maintain our alarms.”
