Halloween is right around the corner and a lot of parents have reached out to us with questions. Will trick or treating happen on Saturday or Sunday this year? Does Rochester have a Halloween curfew? Where are the best neighborhoods to score massive hauls?

Do Rochester and Other Olmsted County Towns Have Halloween Curfews?

Kind of. I couldn't find any info about a curfew specific to Halloween but, as you can see below, the city of Rochester and several neighboring towns do have a curfew in place every day of the year and the times are different based on age.

According to rochestermn.gov, "No minor under the age of sixteen, shall be in or upon the public streets, alleys, parks, playgrounds or other public grounds, public places and public buildings, places of amusement, entertainment or refreshment, or vacant lots, between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. of the following day, official city time."

Rochestermn.gov explains, "No minor of the ages of sixteen or seventeen, shall be in or upon the public streets, alleys, parks, playgrounds or other public grounds, public places and public buildings, places of amusement, entertainment or refreshment, or vacant lots, between the hours of 12:00 midnight and 5:00 a.m. of the following day, official city time."

Halloween is on Sunday – Will Trick or Treating Happen on Saturday or Sunday.

You should probably prepare to have visitors on both days, but after talking to a bunch of listeners we found the majority of parents are still planning to celebrate Halloween on Halloween. 

There are several Trunk or Treating events happening on Saturday and a few on Sunday too.

When Is OK to start trick-or-treating?

Most people start between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM on Halloween evening.
