Less than 170 days until the Steele County Free Fair. Hopefully. Plans are progressing for a regular version of the fair. Realistically, some things might be different in 2021. But fair manager Scott Kozelka must move forward with plans for a 'normal' fair until he's told otherwise. He was a guest on a Fair Talk edition of the AM 1390 KRFO Talk of the Town program recently.

Kozelka said, "We're getting excited. Lots of plans are being made...We're planning as normal until we're told something different. Everyday sounds a little bit better. People are wearing their mask. People are considerate...vaccines...All that helps our fair, helps our county, our community, our state, everywhere."

The fair is scheduled for August 17-22, 2021.

He knows limits or social distancing might need to be enforced, "Those are things we're all looking at...We're looking to see what we're asked to do as we get closer and different events open up...We don't have a fence around it (the fairgrounds)."

Kozelka says grandstand shows are lined up for most of the days with country music singer Jason Pritchard Wednesday, Hairball Thursday, bull riding Saturday and the demo derby Sunday, "probably our biggest crowd pleaser of the week. We have a couple little tweaks we're gonna do with Tuesday and Friday but we're all staying positive and moving forward."

A Steele County Fair staple the Fabulous Love Handles will perform in Fair Square Park in 2021. Transit Authority, a Minnesota-baseball Chicago tribute band with Owatonna's Zach Miller, is booked for Saturday, August 21.

The popular stunt dog show from California will return in 2021. Kozelka says new attractions include Jurassic Park dinosaur exhibit and the Southwest Dairy Learning Zone.
