Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A man convicted of a drug-related murder near Rochester almost 20 years ago has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a recent incident at his ex-girlfriend’s home in Rochester. 46-year-old Mark Huyber admitted to 2nd-degree burglary and a 3rd-degree stalking charge for breaking into the woman’s residence in the 200 block of 18th Street Southwest several weeks ago.

The criminal complaint against the Rochester man states police responded to the home on June 22nd after the woman arrived at the residence and discovered it was filled with natural gas spewing from a cut section of the supply line to the furnace. It was also discovered that sugar had been poured into the gas tank of a vehicle parked inside the garage. Following his arrest, Huyber admitted to breaking into the home and vandalizing the vehicle but denied he was responsible for severing the natural gas line.

Huyber was given an 18-year prison sentence in 2000 after he pleaded guilty to a 2nd-degree murder charge for fatally shooting a Detroit man in 1999. He was also given a stayed prison sentence for threatening an ex-girlfriend several months after his release from prison in 2014. Huyber did go back to prison in 2016 after he was given a 21-month sentence for another domestic incident involving the woman from the 2014 incident. It’s not known if the woman targeted by Huyber last month is the same woman.
