The Cannon Falls Bears have had some incredible pitching in their run to the Minnesota Stae Amateur Baseball Tournament.  Saturday the Bears needed two wins to capture the #3 seed from Region 5C and did exactly that.

Cannon Falls defeated the defending Region 5C Champion Rochester Roadrunners 5-0 with veteran pitcher Keith Meyers going the distance while scattering 7 hits, striking out 14 batters and not walking a soul.

Offensively the Bears avoided hibernation by cranking out 13 hits.  Jacob Christenson was a home run shy of the cycle with three hits including a double and triple while scoring 3 runs.  Brock Peterson had 3 hits, a double, RBI.  Tanner Jackson 3 RBI on 3 hits.

Rochester catcher Matt Kosel was the only Roadrunner to have multiple hits off Meyers.  Four Rochester players would have multiple strikeouts against the crafty left hander.

The Elimination Bracket final game saw a repeat of the opening round of the Region 5C Finals Tournament when the Hastings Hawks played Cannon Falls.

Hastings was feeling good because Meyers had thrown a complete game shutout and they didn't think they would see him again.  In that opening round game he pitched a 1-0 shutout.

Nick Drinken took the hill and delivered a 2 hitter with 5 strikeouts, 3 walks while going the distance in a 5-0 Cannon Falls win.

The Bears managed 9 hits in the game off 2 Hawks pitchers.  Jordan Jeske started the game for Hastings going the first 5 1/3 innings.  He struck out 5, walked 3, allowed 6 hits, 5 runs, 2 earned and hit two batters.  Andrew Kemper went the final 2 2/3 innings with 6 strikeouts, 1 walk, 3 hits allowed.

Isaac Flynn and Joey Meurer were the only Hastings players to get hits off Drinken.

Bears catcher Carlton Lindow had 3 hits, veteran third baseman Rich Burr 2 hits for the only multiple hit performances in the game.

Peter Haggerty had 3 RBI, Tanner Jackson and Eugene Larkin each 1 RBI for Cannon Falls.

In the Region 5C Tournament Cannon Falls pitchers allowed 2 runs in 4 games with 3 shutouts.  Their only loss was to Champion Wanamingo in a 2-1 thriller at John Burch Park in Cannon Falls last weekend.

Friday night Wanamingo downed Austin to win the Region 5C Championship.  The Jacks receive a bye opening weekend of state next weekend in Waconia, Chaska and Hamburg.

The Greyhounds will be the #2 seed, Cannon Falls the #3 seed from Region 5C.

In Region 6C the Waterville Indians had trouble again scoring runs and lost to the St. Clair Wood Ducks 1-0.

The Indians opened the Region 6C Tournament with a 17-1 win over Lake Crystal, then edged the Arlington A's 3-2 in walk-off fashion before losing to the Eagle Lake Expos in extra innings 1-0 despite Luke Sellner allowing 3 hits over the 10 innings.

Gaylord defeated Waseca 10-2 to end the Braves season before the Islanders succumbed to St. Clair 7-4. The Wood Ducks qualify for the State Amateur Baseball Tournament as the #3 seed out of Region 6C.

In the title game the Jordan Brewers clubbed #12 seed Eagle Lake 7-0.  The Brewers won't play opening weekend at state.

Eagle Lake will be the #2 seed.

Region 6C games Saturday were in Arlington.  Region 5C in Red Wing.
