Cakes at Owatonna’s Young Life Cake Auction Look Too Good to Eat
Many of the cakes at the Young Life cake auction are works of art. But you might want to gobble up the specials that come with them during Saturday's 39th annual event.
The annual fundraiser for Young Life of Owatonna is Saturday, April 22, at the Owatonna High School gym. Supporters will bid on 100 auction cakes. Silent auction baskets, instant sale cakes and other events will add to the fundraising and the fun.
Everything pictured is edible except the tables on which they sit. Every year the creators come up with fantastic ideas that tie in to the special that accompanies the cake. The Twins' suite delight cake was made in 2014 and came with tickets to a game. A Gopher football themed cake has been a standard the past few years with Owatonna's connection the team with Andrew Stelter.
In 2016, Tim Vangelder created the people's choice winner of the vegetable basket cake that screams irony. You have to wonder if the auction winner will eat the dragon cake, or will the cake eat the bidder.

KRFO's John Connor, Loren Hart and Roy Koenig will act as auctioneers during Chuck Jamison's final year as Young Life director. Doors open at 10AM. The auction begins at 11AM with live radio coverage on Kat Kountry 105FM.
